We are playing the good guys with guns, bad guys with guns game again. That game only  obscures the gun issue which is that there are people who shouldn’t have them. The challenge is how to identify these people and keep guns out of their hands.

We need to work together to find the answer but there are some Americans
so obsessed with their own right to bear arms that they are unwilling to join efforts to keep them out of the hands of the unfit for fear of losing their own weapons. Furthermore they seek to silence opposition through retaliation and punishment.

This cowboy paranoia makes no sense. If a medication had killed one tenth of the number of innocent victims of gunfire last year public outrage would have demanded that it immediately be taken off the market and future use strictly controlled.

The good guy, bad guy argument is specious and a diversionary tactic to evade confronting the real issue. It is time for us to come together as Americans, abandoning self-interests to seek the common good.

Please join me in praying for the victims  in Washington, Chicago and Kenya and for an end to this escalating gun violence.
